Dolphin Watching Tour
Make an offshore run to Punta Mona, a common feeding site for the dolphins. Weather and seas depending, we’ll visit the mouth of the Sixaola River. Being at sea offers a mesmerizing view of shallow coral beds, diverse coastline, dense jungle and steamy mountain range bordering Costa Rica and Panama. The land forms many secluded beaches only accessible by boat or walking trail. Our stretch includes protected areas, including the Gandoca-Manzanillo National Wildlife Refuge, where we visit beautiful private inlets perfect for all levels of snorkeling. Free divers will enjoy the off-shore reef formations with depths ranging from 4-60 meters.
Costa Rica’s southern Caribbean coast is home to three species of dolphins, the bottlenose, the Atlantic spotted dolphin, and the rare Guyana Tucuxi, whose range is confined to this immediate area. The Gandoca Manzanillo Reserve is also an important nesting area for the enormous Leatherback, Hawksbill, and Green turtles, a sharp eye can often spot them offshore as they linger waiting to swim ashore.

A typical tour makes an offshore run to the Gandoca Manzanillo Reserve. Weather and seas depending, we make one or two dive stops then return via a slower near shore run allowing additional stops while guests gain a phenomenal view of the private inlets, the picturesque beaches with dense jungle meeting the sea, and the steamy mountains in the distance. With near-shore snorkeling, we will allow time for a short jungle hike where you’re likely to see howler monkeys, sloths, poison dart frogs and a variety of birds–maybe even the Great Green Macaw which is a fabulous recovery on this coast.
